Carolyn is an experienced legal professional with substantial background in corporate and commercial transactions, compliance, corporate governance, sales and distribution, and the legal aspects of conducting business in Asia. Carolyn served most recently as Associate General Counsel, with responsibility for legal affairs in Japan, Asia-Pacific, India and China (“JAPIC”), for Hyster-Yale Group, Inc., a global manufacturer of forklifts and materials handling equipment. At Hyster-Yale, Carolyn was involved in a wide range of commercial transactions, technology licensing, FCPA compliance, and export and trade sanction compliance for the JAPIC theater and provided employment law counsel at the Hyster-Yale location in Portland, Oregon. From 2005 to 2007, Carolyn served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for NACCO Materials Handing Group, Inc., the former name of Hyster-Yale, when it was a subsidiary of NACCO Industries, Inc. Carolyn was a partner with Stoel Rives LLP in the Corporate, Securities and Finance and the Renewable Energy practice groups and with Lane Powell PC in their Corporate practice group.
Carolyn believes that her experience both as a partner in a law firm setting and as an in-house attorney has given her valuable perspective on the needs of clients and the valuable guidance that attorneys can bring to the growth and success of a business. Her approach to legal advice always begins with carefully listening to the client’s circumstances, needs, questions, and goals.
Carolyn serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Oregon Humane Society. Previously she served on the Board of Directors of Columbia Land Trust. Carolyn received her law degree from Stanford University and was a member of the Stanford Law Review. In her free time, Carolyn enjoys tending her ever-growing indoor cactus gardens, walking, swimming, and baking.
